Deskripsi Buku

Othello, one of William Shakespeares most renowned tragedies, was written around 1603. It is believed to have been inspired by Un Capitano Moro (A Moorish Captain), a short story by Italian writer Cinthio, which was a part of his collection Gli Hecatommithi (1565). The play is set against the backdrop of Venice and Cyprus and deals with the themes of jealousy, betrayal, love, and racial prejudice. The plot centers on Othello, a general in the Venetian army, and his relationship with his wife, Desdemona. Othello is manipulated by his ensign, Iago, into believing that Desdemona has been unfaithful with Cassio, a lieutenant. This insidious deception leads to tragic consequences, including Othellos descent into jealousy and the eventual demise of several main characters.
